Ruby-tailed wasp - Chrysis ignita
There are 100 reasons I shouldn't have posted this picture. It was underexposed. The eyes aren't in focus. There is motion blur. It is cropped more than I'm comfortable with. The composition is bad. The background is boring. I could go on and on. Over the years I've shot them many times and I just can't get something I'm happy with. They are the most spectacular insects I see, but they torment me. They are tiny. This one is about 6mm long. And they rarely stop moving for a second. They dance in front of my lens while I try to track them and as soon as I'm ready to get off a good shot they fly away. It is like a sniper trying to bag Speedy Gonzales from 500 yards. I'll keep trying, but I may never bag one. Maybe someday I'll catch one napping. I thought I'd post this in case I never get any closer.
